April 24-26, 2024 Klamath, California

 High of 60. It was cloudy and foggy this am when we left Del Loma. We arrived at Klamath and it was still cloudy and cool, but the sun came out in the late afternoon and it was lovely.

Fog on our drive this am. We are now camped at Klamath Camper Corral in Klamath, California. we got 5 days at half price with our passport America card. 

John checking out one of the fire engines. Some one was stealing the gas out of the engines, so they moved them all here so someone could watch them. We took a short walk on the river trail. It is incredibly spring green and lush here.

Dandelion and daisies, rosemary, blackberry, thimbleberry, wild cucumber, butter cups, ribwort plantain, horse tail shoots. I finished this basket. It is made from dyed and natural pine needles, polyester thread and clay beads from Chile. The center is apiece of selenite that I shaped, sandblasted and painted the panther petroglyph on. It  is 7 x 1 3/4 inches. 

Sunset tonight on the fog rolling in. It rained all day yesterday. High of 58 yesterday and today. It only rained part of today . Elk at Prairie Creek Redwood State Park. 

We hiked Brown's creek, Rhododendron trail and South Creek trail for a total of 4 miles with 660 elevation gain and loss. Very beautiful, but wore me out. John with redwoods.

April 23, 2024 Del Loma, California

 High of 77, sunny, then thunder storm and sunny again.

We drove down Trinity canyon to Willow Creek. John tells me that the river in the canyon is class V. The river with wild flowers and New Creek joining the Trinity. Apparently you can also kayak it too. 

New Creek. Very dense foliage here. Tight trees and lots of  under brush. I can see how fast wildfires would burn here and in this canyon with the steep canyon walls they would be hard to fight. We went to Willow Creek because it is the Bigfoot capital of the world. 

I wanted to go to the Bigfoot museum. I had seen it years ago, but it was not open when we went by. Well it is not open this time either. It opens in May. My foot by a casting of a bigfoot track. 

The town is into the Bigfoot thing. Bigfoot cannabis, bigfoot crossing, John as bigfoot, birds nest fungi, one with 'eggs' in it, wet lupine leaves, hairy vetch and pacific coast white iris. Bigfoot mural in town 

We had also wanted to stop at the Early Bird Cafe for a bigfoot burger. They made special buns shaped like a big foot. But it has been gone for many years. Too bad the internet missed that little item. So we had lunch at the Bigfoot Steak house. John with the bigfoot in the Bigfoot steak house. 

The Gray falls day use area is a picnic area. I had hoped it was a scenic overlook. It is really pretty.

A big thunder storm blew in. Rain sounds nice on the bus. I won't be saying that a couple weeks from now since we are headed to the coast and in the Pacific northwest soon. It is predicted to rain every day in the forecasts. Trinity river from the campground. It is running very high right now.

We are in these national forests. Yellow sunflower, tree ears, white owl clover, scotch brome, poison ivy and moss, fruit tree blooms.  A few clouds for sunset. 

April 21-22, 2024 Honey Lake to Trinity River, California

 High of 76 and sunny.

Sunrise over Honey Lake. I got up to shut the shades and there it was. Then back to bed. Nice day to sit in the lawn chair and work on baskets. This one is a little funky. It is supposed to be a turtle on stones and water. Looks a little better in person. It is made from dyed pine needles, polyester thread, glass beads and the center is a dichroic  glass  turtle I cast. 7 x 7 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches.

I made this basket sometime ago. I put the beads on it today. It is made with dyed and natural pine needles, polyester thread, glass beads and the center is a glass dichroic heart I cast. 6 x 6 x 3 inches. We had dinner over looking the lake.

The moon is not supposed to be full until Tuesday, but it  was looking pretty full tonight. View driving over the Sierras of Mt Shasta in the distance through burned forest.

Trinity river canyon. We are now camped at Del Loma RV park on the Trinity river. It was 88 degrees and humid when we arrived. Very lush and green.

Twisty trunks of the madrone trees. I walked to the 'beach' at the campground on the Trinity river. The water is so high it is underwater. 

The swimming pool is open. Bedstraw, poison oak, phlox, Indian warrior, white flowers, hairy pink, dwarf daisies, and lilacs are blooming.

We bought fuel in Redding at the cheapest place between Nevada and our destination. Most prices we saw were up to $5.90 a gallon. Hillside of lupine and poppies, Bigfoot at the RV park, fruit trees and scotch brome along the way, and dwarf lupine. Dinner in our campsite.
