March 7-8, 2013 City of Rocks, NM etc.

Yesterday was predicted to be the warmest day we are going to be here so we hung out and played in the rocks.

There are all kinds of holes in these rocks-we found two that were lounge chair shaped, so we hung out in the sun for awhile. John through a narrow hole between rocks.

Some ungodly urge got me up before sunrise today to take pictures. Good thing I did, it was about the last sun of the day. Wind and rain blew in. It is supposed to snow tonight. We have not been in snow in years.

The light was beautiful on the rocks.

The view of this far peak(Clarks Peak) is our view out the window.  Here are the storm clouds rolling in.

sunrise. We went to the big  annual Rock hound extravaganza in Deming. They had over 100 venders and demos. I learned that the rocks don’t look like much until you cut and polish them- more equipment. This area has lots of rocks and rock hounds love it. They even have a state park named Rock hound Park. We had never been to a rock and mineral show. I wanted to get some beads for my baskets.

John looking at the outside displays. Of course it started to rain when I got out there. I got lots of basket beads. And some for earrings.

After the rock show we went to the Deming museum. Free admission, the rock show was free too. They had a huge display of Mimbres pottery, the Mimbres lived in pueblos in this area. The first photo is baskets. They also had displays on almost every other thing you could think of. Great museum.

They had a medical exhibit room. I was appalled to see this IL blood gas instrument I trained on in 1975 in with the iron lungs and antique medical equipment.  On the way home we passed Jackass Junction, it was right near the Sexy red used book store.

Faywood hot springs is right next to the City of Rocks, which is the real reason we came here. It is wonderful. Here is the rainbow landing on a hot spring pool with my darling husband in it. There were almost no hot springs in the east, so it is really nice to be back in hot spring range.

Sunset was pretty similar to sunrise, both had huge black storm clouds to the west. It was so windy that I took this out the window of the bus.
