Old Trail Town in Cody was moved here from the surrounding areas. The cabins were taken apart and each log labeled, then set up here. It also has many fabulous displays inside the cabins. I have not been here since the early 70’s when it was only a few building. It has come a long way.
The grave of ‘Liver eating’ Johnson, who was portrayed by Robert Redford in the movie Jeremiah Johnson. Robert Redford came here one 4th of July when they moved the grave here to Trail Town. I finally got to see a two headed calf and a 7 legged lamb at Trail Town.
The Buffalo Bill dam is up the canyon from Cody. It was built in 1905 ish, and when it was done it was the highest dam in the world at that time. They did not have all the power construction equipment they have now. The exhibits were very good. They have added 25 feet to the dam and the visitors center since I lived here. Photo of looking down the canyon from the dam.
The Shoshone River runs past Cody. The old boot mineral spring pool was built in the early 1900’s too. When I was in high school there was a bridge across the river to it and the pool and building had fallen into disrepair. The wall were crumbing, the roof was gone, but didn’t stop us from swimming there. Now it is private and remodeled. Too bad they don’t let us riff raff who used to swim there visit anymore.
They have a rodeo every night here in the summer. On the 3rd and 4th of July they have the Stampede, a huge rodeo. This is the view from the Geyser Brewing Co parking lot. This building used to be the Bronze Boot, a western supper club and bar we all hung out at. In the interim it was a Baptist school of all things, an event center and restaurant. We sampled beers and had dinner here.
Tonight we had dinner with Glenn and Billie at Zapata's Mexican restaurant.
Billie found this photo of us taken in 1980. We had this photo taken tonight after dinner (and the 2/$10 margaritas). Not sure we have changed that much!
