A beautiful sunny 50 degree day.
I walked on the nature trail over to the Dutch Oven Gathering here at the campground this morning.
Lots of dutch oven chefs preparing lunch. They had fancy setups, one even had this tool box full of spices and utensils. Interesting time visiting with the Abbeville natives.
The food was superb! Louisiana cookin’ as one of the ladies said. They gave us this little pan that said Welcome to Cajun country since it was our first time there.
In the center of the photo is the court house for Abbeville. It is surrounded by oak trees and a traffic circle. We went to Erath to hear a zydeco music (cajun music) jam.
A crawfish chimney on a burrow. The burrows go up to 3 feet deep. The Graceland cemetery in Abbeville has the coffins in above ground crypts because the ground water is so close to the surface.
The Graceland Cemetery is on Dear Lane and the state park is on Pleasant rd. on the 21st they are have a Cracklin cooking demonstration at the park. For those of you who don’t know what those are they are pig skin boiled in oil in a big cast iron pot over a fire. I tasted one today, it tasted kind of like bacon.
