September 29-Oct 4, 2014 Fort Collins

We are both missing being on the bus. Can’t wait to get back on the road. As soon as I heal from the surgery, which I will get Oct 30th, we are gone.  Not as many blog posts when we are at home, we are not doing as many new photogenic things. John has been sulking because we are not on the bus, walking up to almost 10 miles a day along the river and doing a little kayaking on the river through town. I have been doing glass and trying to prepare for the glass shows coming up, biking and hula hooping.  John is still scanning slides into his computer, but I finished scanning my photo albums into mine.

John got a new smoker to use at home. Does not want to take too many things off the bus-we might forget them when we leave.  He smoked a huge pork shoulder roast. We have been having smoked pulled pork all week and there is still some left. My latest glass piece had so many bubbles it just made me mad.  I just took a hammer to it and broke them and filled them with frit (tiny little pieces of glass ) to refire and see if I can save it.

Here are the broken bubbles full of frit. If you look close on the bowl you will see two cats, a number of figures, including Kokapelli, a fish bone, bear paw. Some interesting detail I added. Don’t know if you can see them in these photos, but they are there.

Also entertaining myself making pendants from old earrings that didn’t sell. This is some before firing. I did save the tree bowl. The bubbles fired flat, but a little dull, so I painted gold spirals on top of them, zigzags around the rest of the tree and and fired it again to slump it into the mold, and viola, here is the finished product.

Here is the first tree bowl I made on the left and the latest on the right. I like the right one much better, the left one is too busy and hard to even tell what it is. The right one is going into the show. Here are roses my darling husband bought me, a pumpkin from our friend Barry and part of my Blue Ridge Parkway glass in the background.

Last night we had dinner with the Moran’s in Aurora. Rock Moran, Mike Moran, and John Moran are cousins and went to boarding  high school together  at Campion.  Rock and Karen just recently moved to Aurora and into their new very nice house. Rock works at Buckley which is just down the road from where they live. Rock and Lou cooked a yummy  dinner for us. BBQ’ed tri tip steaks, roasted potatoes, mushrooms and asparagus, salad and bread.  Around the table left to right is  Mike Moran, John Moran, Rock Moran, Lou, and Karen Moran.

It is that time again. I harvested basil. 22 packed cups of basil made into pesto. Yum, yum. We won’t run out this winter and the plants are still producing.  Sunset tonight. The days are shorter and cooler. It rained and was very chilly ( 60’s/30’s) earlier this week. They say  it will be 70’s/40’s and sunny the rest of the week. Perfect fall weather.
