October 31-November 1, 2018 Florence, Oregon

Raining and in the 50's all day.

Downtown Florence, Oregon had a Halloween celebration this afternoon with trick or treating at the stores. We went down to celebrate.

The best costumes were the Chess family. The black king, rook, knight and the white queen. A few big dinosaurs too.

Jelly fish, two dogs in costume, and a fat housewife who sat on her small dog. John wanted to go into the Beer Heaven. We had a drink and shrimp. The Coast Guard handed out candy and did tours of one of their vessels. The Firemen brought their truck out and gave out candy.

A great pumpkin in lights in front of the historic bridge built in 1936 across the Siuslaw river. The marina is fogged in.

Our Halloween decorations are some pumpkin lights in front of our cat eye sunscreen. It rained about 36 hours straight. We headed to the John Dellenback Dunes trail. It is 6 miles round trip.

The trail starts with this bridge over the Eel Creek and goes through the area of lush vegetation. Closer to the dunes the pine trees have witch's hair lichen hanging from them.

Red manzanita branches and  trunks with a red dotted lichen. John going up the first dune on the trail.

We had rain, headwinds and fog on the way out. Red fescue grass on the dunes and not much view because of the fog. John walking on top of dunes.

John with concave dunes. John disappearing into some dense coastal  rainforest. His jacket matches the foliage here. He is invisible.

Hobbit like tunnels and boardwalks in this part of the trail.

Red fescue, yellow flower and aster. Mossy shrubs along the trail. Dunes covered with beach grass.

John reading the sign at the John Dellenbaugh beach at the end of the trail. We had lunch there. John hiding in the grass with is camo green jacket.

The dunes are the highest in this area, some up to 300 feet tall. Twisted manzanita branches, deer track in the sand, and fuzzy round lichens.

More twisted manzanita branches. Dried beach flowers and colorful beach ferns. Just Dune it!! A sign by an ATV rental place. You can ride ATV's on big portions of the sand dune. old man's beard lichen, a newt , a wood sculpture down town Reedsport. There is a chainsaw carver there.
John at the Defeat River brewery in front of the sign that says at the bottom:Pure and free from drugs or poisons.
