December 19-20, 2018 Death Valley, California

It is in the 70's and sunny! Wonderful.

Gas prices as we were leaving Panamint Springs. Good thing we didn’t need fuel, it is a little pricey here.  We drove up  from 2,000 feet in Panamint Valley to Towne pass at almost 5,000, then back down to sea level, steep grades and many tight turns, plus dippy roads. The basket is coming along. I have started up the sides. It was such a beautiful sunny warm day I sat in the lawn chair and worked on it.

The bus at Stove Pipe Wells Campground in Death Valley. It was sunny and in the 70’s today.  Beautiful sunset with the moon to the east.

Sunset looking west.
Today we hiked up Telephone Canyon. The road was a little rough so we parked and walked part of it. John is just leaving the car now.

Telephone spring is dried up but there are still a number of stone pools where it was. John in a  narrow slot canyon  off Telephone Canyon.

The slot canyon ended at this dry fall. John climbed up and looked over to see if we wanted to keep going. The canyon widened out so we headed back. Desert Holly with it's red berries, brittle brush blooms, a small arch and a rock with glasses on.

The narrow slot on the way back. John took this photo of me in the canyon.

The light and clouds were stunning. Telephone arch in Telephone Canyon.

Canyon on the way back. Cool rocks, one of the rock walls at Telephone spring, a face rock, the fanglomerate rock is lots of rocks and sediment hardened like cement. Another small arch.

The loaded car barely made it under the overhang. The evening light accentuates all the folds in the mountain.
This is a dramatic presunset show. There ended up being no sunset, low clouds must have obscured the sun.
