December 21, 2018 Death Valley, California

High 60's and sunny. We tried to hike to Stretched Pebble Canyon today but the directions were vague so we ended up going to two other canyons that were interesting. We think we know where it is and will check it out tomorrow.

John walking on the alluvial fan- giant fan shaped piles of rocks that the water brings out of the canyons. Lots of up and down. Very rocky. The first canyon we went to had tons of these quartz lines in the rocks.

Notice the bent rocks on the floor of this canyon. Lots of big rocks and color.

John heading out the narrow canyon.

The next canyon had a lot of dry waterfalls we had to climb. Here is John climbing. John walking on the canyon floor with lots of cool rock shapes and colors.

This part of the canyon wall looks like it is melting and coming down the mountain but it is solid rock. Weird lines in the rocks. Some of the big rocks in the alluvial fan.

The two canyons we hiked in are on the side of Tucki Mountain pictured here. They are the two canyons on the left side. Full moon rising in the sunset of the Winter Solstice.
Full moon rising over the campground in sunset.
