April 28-30, 2025 Cape Blanco, Oregon

 58 and sunny,

Sea stacks on the way north in Oregon. We are camped at Cape Blanco State Park, Oregon.

John on the cliff trail above the beach in the park. View of the ocean.

John on the cliff trail above the beach. Driftwood logs on the beach

The ocean. View of beach looking north.

View of beach looking south. The fog blocked out sunset.

I finished this basket. It is made from dyed pine needles, polyester thread, glass and metal beads. The center is piece of selenite that I sandblasted and painted a group of kokopelis- kind of like a conga line-  on it. The outside of the basket has white feathers and a golden kokopeli. It is  7 x 3 inches. On our walk we could see under and over the edge of the fog. It was pretty fun watching the shapes change in it. The blue flowers are violas.

Violas.  Another view of the fog.

Sunset was cool, the fog cloud was still there and the sun slipped through. At the end of the fog bank was sunset to the south.

We hiked to the Cape Blanco lighthouse today. It was VERY windy. View from the trip to the lighthouse looking south.

View to the north. Lots of dwarf angelica flowers. All less than a foot tall. Needle rock.

Dwarf angelica, coastal iris, yellow butter cups and small daisies, and new growth on a fir tree. John walking on the trail, the foliage is about shoulder high.

Looking back at the light house. Sunset with the lighthouse.

Sunset. The trail back to camp.

April 27, 2025 Klamath, California

57 and sunny- after the morning fog burned off. We went back to Prairie  Creek Redwoods.

Wildflowers. We walked along the old coastal highway for aways. This is why I love the Pacific Northwest- it is GREEN!

Pacific ocean and lupine. Alders and pacific ocean,  Love these colors.

Wildflowers. We stopped at this prison sign and started back. I looked it up and it is facility to house prisoners to use as forest fire fighters. Lupine, foliage and he coastline.

We stopped at the 'Big Tree'--like there is only one big tree here. John getting a photo. It is 286 feet tall,  23.7 feet in diameter, 74.5 feet in circumference, and about 1,500 years old. Wow! Next stop was Fern Canyon. People come from all over the world to see this canyon.  You have to walk in water to walk up it.

John in Fern Canyon, the walls are covered with ferns.  Parts of Jurassic park  and the Lost World were filmed here

John in Fern canyon.

John in Fern canyon. A small seep in Fern Canyon.

Little falls. An obstacle in the canyon, you have to crawl under it.

Lush growth on the coastal trail back to the truck. Water crossing!

We had dinner at the Country club bar and grill. We thought we would rub elbows with locals, but it seemed to be mostly tourists.  They had a cool bottle opener collection hanging from the ceiling behind the bar. 95 % of the original old growth redwoods have been logged. The people that lived here made their living logging. They had one of these huge chainsaws that they used hanging from the ceiling.

April 26, 2025 Klamath, California

High of 52, rainy and foggy.

Rain and fog. We went to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Our favorite part of Redwood National Park.

Danger! Wild Elk do not approach on foot. Ferns on the ground and on the trees.

John in giant redwoods. Brown's creek, the trail followed the creek.

Fog seems to belong in the redwoods. John skirting huge tree roots covered with ferns.

Redwoods. So quiet and a feeling of timelessness. The red barn at the RV park.

Old town Klamath with a population of 850 was destroyed in the flood of 1964. Trillium, rhododendrons, two types of fern and a banana slug.

The sky cleared to the west. Sunset over the Klamath River. Sunset.

Sunset.
