April 27, 2025 Klamath, California

57 and sunny- after the morning fog burned off. We went back to Prairie  Creek Redwoods.

Wildflowers. We walked along the old coastal highway for aways. This is why I love the Pacific Northwest- it is GREEN!

Pacific ocean and lupine. Alders and pacific ocean,  Love these colors.

Wildflowers. We stopped at this prison sign and started back. I looked it up and it is facility to house prisoners to use as forest fire fighters. Lupine, foliage and he coastline.

We stopped at the 'Big Tree'--like there is only one big tree here. John getting a photo. It is 286 feet tall,  23.7 feet in diameter, 74.5 feet in circumference, and about 1,500 years old. Wow! Next stop was Fern Canyon. People come from all over the world to see this canyon.  You have to walk in water to walk up it.

John in Fern Canyon, the walls are covered with ferns.  Parts of Jurassic park  and the Lost World were filmed here

John in Fern canyon.

John in Fern canyon. A small seep in Fern Canyon.

Little falls. An obstacle in the canyon, you have to crawl under it.

Lush growth on the coastal trail back to the truck. Water crossing!

We had dinner at the Country club bar and grill. We thought we would rub elbows with locals, but it seemed to be mostly tourists.  They had a cool bottle opener collection hanging from the ceiling behind the bar. 95 % of the original old growth redwoods have been logged. The people that lived here made their living logging. They had one of these huge chainsaws that they used hanging from the ceiling.
