Over 400 movies have been filmed in the Alabama Hills just east of Lone Pine in the 20’s-40’s. We went to the museum of Lone Pine Film History first.
The Lone Ranger, Tonto of the Lone Ranger series and Suep at the film museum. John with Dale Evans from the Roy Rogers series. Both were filmed here. These are the only ones I really remember watching. The rest were before my time. There are more current movies too, but I haven’t seen them either!
Then off to the Alabama Hills. Nightmare Rock in the Alabama Hills. John standing where Cesar Romero stood during the 1940 filming of the Gay Caballero. We went to sites of Gunga Din,Showdow, Rawhide (the movie, not the series), The Tall T, How the West was Won, Hell Bent for Leather, and Roy Rogers .
Mount Whitney is the the peaks in the middle, way back. Mt Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48. John-the light of my life in Mobius arch.
Sue in Mobius arch. John’s shadow on the rocks. . .
Moon rising over the rocks. Evening light on the formations.
View east toward Lone Pine through the Alabama Hills and the peaks on the other side of the valley. I decided to crawl through this tunnel. This area is riddled with cool caves. It is really a beautiful place, we could spend weeks here. You can camp for 14 days dispersed BLM camping here. Lots of roads left over from the movies.
