La Posa long term camping area is a little more crowded than the short term area we are in. $180 to stay for 7 month, Sept thru April. The Chocolate Mountains are near here, I need to find them so I can lick them.
Palm Canyon is in the Kofa wildlife Refuge south of Quartzsite. It is a little higher altitude and the vegetation is thicker. Lovely Sonoran desert vegetation, very rugged mountains. Lots of fuzzy looking cholla cactus. Palm canyon is a shady cool canyon. Hiking is very steep.
The palms are fan palms native to Arizona and up a narrow side canyon. Very startling out in the stinking hot desert. There must be some water in the canyon, there is lots of green vegetation.
Close up of the palms. A couple palms in another side canyon farther up the main canyon.
The shark fin has an arch in it. Looking back at the road and Palm Canyon.
Wonderful vegetation. I love this area. A very, very green ocotillo.
These new signs at city limits of Quartzsite. Life in the desert in Quartzsite, the top photo, the only place to dump trash is at the refuse transfer station, only open Sun-Weds. The Colorado river is so salty, full of fertilizer and pollution that it tastes too bad to drink, you can by reverse osmosis water for 25 cents a gallon. Need your tanks cleaned, all the RV proctologist! The shower is a sun shower on the back of the bus.
Some of the greenery and flowers from Palm Canyon. cholla blooms , a hiker walking in circles? and a wavy rock.
Pink moon and another glorious sunset.
