January 14-16, 2018 Okefenokee Swamp, Georgia To Gold Head,State Park, Florida

This is what I saw when I looked out the window this am. I love seeing green on the trees in January. Sunshine and a high of 54 predicted. We paddled the same route to Minnie's lake, but with sunshine today.  This is the main channel.

The narrower channel to Minnie's lake. I followed John into a side channel. What a difference the sunshine makes.

John took this photo of me ahead of him.We turned around, laid back and let the current take us back down. Relaxed and enjoyed the quiet and scenery. John waving at me as we drifted.

The route down, me in the second photo floating blissfully down.

A cool dead tree, a gray tree frog we saw on the boardwalk yesterday , an ibis and a vulture perched on the top of a tree.  The vultures settling down to roust for the night.

Palmettos and pines leaving the Okefenokee. Welcome to Florida.

We are now camped at Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park. It is in the sandhills of central northern Florida. The bus at our campsite. The park is known for a deep ravine cut by this small stream that comes from a spring. The water is crystal clear over white sand. It is cooler and damper there than the surrounding  area so it is full of ferns and moisture loving plants. We hiked the fern loop.

John on his way up to the ridge trail with oaks and palmettos. Looking down on fern canyon.

Nice greenery on the trail. I love these twisty oaks.

Long leaf pine trees. The needles are 10-15 inches long. Lovely trees. A palmetto leaf. Two of my favorite plants.

In the picnic area is this spanish moss monster.
