September 28-29, 2019 Pyramid Lake, Nevada

Today was in the 40's, very windy and rainy. The waves on the lake were huge.

We woke up to partly sunny and windy, with big 1-3 foot waves on the lake.

There were whitecaps on the whole lake. Dust was blowing. This is the rain coming in over the mountains from the west.

The last view of the Pyramid before the rain, then rain, fog and wind. The bus was rocking.

Then the wind calmed down, the rain left and when the clouds lifted we had snow on the mountains around us. The sun shined through a few holes in the clouds on wispy clouds on the snow covered horizon.

We walked to the only bar/restaurant/store in town. The air smelled wonderful.  Get  your beer and gear here.

This lake has the biggest trout in the world. Here a couple of the monsters. 14 lbs. Fishing season starts on Tuesday. People come from all over the world to fish. I am almost finished with the masterpiece. It is 9 1/2 x 11 x 2 inches. Made with pine needles dyed orange, yellow and cocoa brown. It has a fused dichroic glass bear in the center that I made and some bear beads around it.

Sunrise on the snow. Livestock in the road.

Not sure what this livestock is. Horse, donkey, mule or burro? Rain storm across the lake.

Rain storm across the lake in the  mountains. John photographing the Needles. They are off limits to non tribal members on land or by boat. There is a geyser in there too.

Split tufa rocks. A pelican and some cool textures in the tufa.

The Needles and some more weird shaped tufa rocks.

Pointy rocks and a pointy rock with round at the bottom.

Textures,  bumps, holes and bird nest in the  hole. Pictographs.
Sort of sunset over the bus.

September 27, 2019 Pyramid Lake, Nevada

High 80's yesterday, 70's today with some wind and supposed to be in the 40's tomorrow with rain.

Wind waves on the lake. We went to the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Museum/visitors Center. It is in the cool building. The fish are cui-ui, a fish that only lives in Pyramid Lake.  It was a main food source for the indians living here.

A photo of the Stone Mother. It is a rock formation that looks like a seated woman with a basket. The Lahontan cutthroat trout are the largest cutthroat species. The largest recorded trout weighted in at 41 lbs. Anaho Island is wildlife refuge. It has the largest nesting colony of white pelicans in the world. beaded jewelry seen in the museum gift shop. The high school has a pyramid on top of it, white and yellow flowers seen today and the 'popcorn' rock.

No burning man trash please. It is against the law here to 'import' trash. One of the beaches is called Wino Beach, and some of the coiled baskets made by the natives here. . .  Cool looking cove.

Another view of the cool looking cove. I couldn't decide which photo to use, so I used both. Tamarack Rock is one of many tufa formations around the lake.

Pre Sunset from camp. The dinner table is set up for the sunset show.

Nice clouds over the lake. Wild cloud over the bus.

As the sunset went on this lenticular cloud morphed into this.

The cloud over the bus went through a few shape changes.

September 23-26, 2019 Palo Alto, California To Pyramid Lake, Nevada

I finished a few more rows on my current masterpiece. Laurie's three sons came over to pick up a few things. Michael, Jon and Matt. Always nice to see them.

I took John to dinner at the Brewer's Cabinet brewery in Reno for his birthday season, Here he is with his double IPA. The Truckee River running through Reno.

A picture of the new Reno The biggest little city in the world sign (on top) and the old one. Welcome to Nevada, a stained glass whale on the riverwalk and the Believe sign along the riverwalk.

I got stung by a yellow jacket, on my right ankle, walking down the sidewalk on Sunday. It just keeps swelling bigger and bigger. It is hot, red, sore and itchy. We went into Circus Circus to see the circus shows but they were not having them till evening. Thunderbird Motel sign and NO weapons or club colors allowed. The historic Nugget.

The large tree sculpture was built by Misha Naiman, my brother-in-law's grand daughter. It  is a sculpture of an ancient bristlecone pine tree. Mural in Reno, home sign, and lucky money to loan. John driving a vintage car wearing a duster and hat.

Sue driving the vintage car wearing a red hat and duster. We went to the National Automobile Museum.  Fireman parking only, All others will be smoked and a copper rolls royce.  Fabulous museum.

We had dinner at my cousin Lys's house tonight. I paddled around the lake in their housing development of six houses before dinner. Their beautiful house over the lake.

My cousin Lys. It was great to see her and Paul. We are now at Pyramid Lake, Nevada. Beautiful very deep blue lake on the Paiute reservation.

The bus at our private beach on Pyramid lake. No one else is camped here. Only one jet ski went by, then no other boats. It is like having our own private lake. John walking on the beach north.

Walking back south on the beach. Near dusk-my favorite time of the day- I launched my kayak on the lake. It was mirror smooth. Looking back at the bus on our private beach.

Looking east across the lake. The pointy rock is Pyramid Rock. Mossy rocks by the marina.

The sun is dropping below the hills behind me.

Grebes on the lake. When I turned around to go back a head wind blew up. Sunset behind me.
Sunset in front of me in a sheltered cove by our beach.
