September 9-11, 2019 Carbondale, Colorado to Green River, Utah

Another beautiful day on the Colorado River. Low 80's and sunny.

Five kayaks tied to the top of Jimjim's car. Creative packing.  John and Jimjim blowing up my boat for me. Mandy and I waited at the Grizzly put in and the rest went up river to run the harder Shoshone section.  We ran into John Jaycox-on shore- at Grizzley who used to boat with John M and John G at least 25 years ago.

Near the end of a beautiful run we stopped at a hot spring on the river and were entertained watching a helicopter transport men and equipment while they were working on the power lines way above the highway. The rides at the amusement park on the cliff are behind the helicopter. Martha and Jimjim watching the heli from the hot spring.

Looking back up the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon where we just came from. Rumor has it that someone sent the photo of Jimjim kayaking in the giant pothole and today a city crew showed up and are fixing it.

We drove to Grand Junction today. Here is the bus parked at Junction West RV park. It is a nice park for a commercial RV park, but expensive. It has been raining off and on since we arrived. We were rewarded with this great  rainbow. The pot of gold is my sweet hubby and our bus.

Cool clouds around sunset looking west.

The sunset from our picnic table at dinner and a last shot of the clouds west.

Last night when we pulled into Grand Junction the engine monitor told us that the coolant was low. John checked it and it was ok, and the engine temp was ok. This am it told him to turn the engine off. We took it to Cummins and they found a deteriorated heater hose and they replaced in before noon.  It was costly, but there is no where between here and western Calif that we could have had it worked on. It was fortunate that if it was going to break it did it here. We left colorful Colorado and entered Utah- Life elevated. We passed The Twilight Zone jerky  store, past Moab exit where  adventures begin and stopped in Green River. This is a river willow blossom.

John is standing in front of the reportedly world's biggest watermelon. Green River is known for it melons. This weekend they are having the Melon Festival. Too bad, we will miss it. We walked to Vetere melon stand. We had shopped here last time through and got the sweetest, freshest  melons we had never heard of before. We got more this trip too.

We are camped at Green River state park. A very nice wooded campground on the Green River.  A view up the Green River this afternoon.

John took me out to dinner at Ray's tavern-The Place for everyone. He has been stopped her after his river running and I stopped her after hiking trips. We eat here every time though. Yummy burgers and beer. Cathy and Tom who we had met in the campground and recommended Ray's to came in and sat with us. They are from Prescott, Az and go north in the summer and back to their home in the winter. Very good dinner companions.
Sunset in beautiful historic downtown Green River, Utah.
