April 17-18, 2020 Shoshone, California

It was high 70's, then it clouded up and rained this afternoon.

Rain. No wonder the desert is green. The next day we went 4 wheeling in Sperry Wash.  There were a few rough spots John got out and spotted us through.

Looking from Sperry wash toward China Ranch on the other side of these badlands. Lorraine, Toni, Susan, Judy and John sauntering through the desert.

Butterflies in the tamarisk blooms. Wild mustard.

Lunch in the shade. Flowers on the hillside.

Evening primroses with gravel ghosts, phacelias and gravel ghosts. lots of phacelias, and Lilac Bonnet. Desert gold by the river.

Gravel ghosts, phacelias, evening primroses by the Amargosa river. Looking north along the Amargosa river.

The two jeeps in front of a red cliff. Desert gold, desert 5 spot and sand verbena, sand verbena blossom, desert gold, 5 spot, gravel ghost and sand verbena. Cryptantha and a swirly log.

We stopped at Dumont dunes since most of us had not been there. It is a very large BLM camping area at the base of Dumont Dunes. It is an off road vehicle area. Usually it is packed with campers and loud with OHV's, but with the quarantine there were not many people there. The rains made the desert very green.

A huge 5 spot plant, plantain, cryptantha and sand verbenas. A field of sand verbenas.

Judy and John photographing the sand verbena field.  We walked along the top of a small dune.

Susan, Judy and John coming down the dune. John and Toni walking in the desert gold.

Lorraine coming down the dune. The group walking in a field of flowers.
