January 26-28, 2021 Mittry Lake, Arizona

59 and sunny. Great day for the lawn chair.

I started this new basket. The center was 4 pairs of glass paw earrings I made, they all have defects, so I fused them together for the basket center. The almost full moon  got stuck  on it's way up in this palm tree in the sunset.

Reflections of the almost full moon in sunset. There are hundreds of birds on this lake in the evening.

Another beautiful day to paddle. I was taking a photo of the coot and he took off running on top of the water.

The almost full moon snagged on this palm frond rising in sunset. I was lining up a shot of this great egret and it decided to fly away, a hawk, great blue heron and snowy egret. The bottom is phragmites against the blue sky.

68 degrees and sunny. Perfect day to relax in my kayak.

The current masterpiece in progress. I fused the center from 4 pairs of dichroic glass earrings I made. It is 7 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches so far. Grackles hanging out in the campground.

John outdid himself with appetizers tonight.  Green peppers with tomatoes, jalapenos, parmesan and goat cheese. And guacamole with  tomatoes, jalapenos, cilantro and cheddar with chips. Served with some nice wine and sunset. Sunset over the puddle by the campground.

Sunset from the fishing jetty.

John doing tai chi in front of sunset.  The sunset just keep getting more brilliant.

We wanted to watch the full moon rise, but there was a cloud bank on the horizon. We got a slit moon. On my phone it shows the moon just starting to go above the horizon, and rising into the constellation of cancer. Bye bye sunset.

When the moon got above the clouds it was too dark for my little point and shoot, but I took this anyway.

January 24-25, 2021 Mittry Lake, Arizona

High of 59, bit windy and partly cloudy.

I was walking around before sunset and the light hit the lake just right and it was a deep blue. Sunset over the lake was really pretty.

The dock at the lake. A grebe posing in the colors.

Closer up of the grebe in sunset. This is reflection on a puddle in the campground.

John took these this morning before I got up. Sunrise on the lake under a heavy cloud deck. Looking west a rainbow over the lake in sunrise.

I saw this HUGE thunderstorm heading our way. The contrast was so high that the camera washed out the foreground which was lighted with brilliant colors.

Thunderstorm with sunlit palm trees and lake ahead of the storm. Looking down lake at the dark clouds.

Edge of the storm from the campground. I finished this basket. It looked kind of plain, so I tarted it up with glass seed beads, gem stone chips and pine cone petals.  It is 6 1/2 x 5 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches.

I love watching these flocks of blackbirds undulating over the cattails and in front of the sunset.
 Sunset.

January 23, 2021, Mittry Lake, Arizona

65 and partly cloudy today. I rained just a bit last night and supposed to rain a bit tonight, then sunny tomorrow.

We hiked up behind the campground. There were lots of trails. We took the one that looked most used.  Looking down on the Colorado River canal where it comes out of a tunnel right below us. A Christmas tree of sorts on the ridge.

Early blooming ocotillos. John hiking through some cool rocks.

Dropped down into an arroyo. John walking down the arroyo.

Ironwood tree in the arroyo. Looking up a side canyon toward red cliffs. I wanted to go this way because it looked more scenic. John wanted to go another.

Looking down into the lush side canyon. Red cliffs on the horizon with clouds.

John on the ridge. The canyon lead to more of the Colorado River Canal. It goes through another tunnel in the middle of this photo. We could not cross it to get back to camp. Oops, maybe we should have gone the way John wanted to go

We had to climb down into three arroyos and back up three ridges to get back to the trail to camp. John is the red dot at the top, I have fallen behind.

Looking out of the dry desert to the blue lake below. The Colorado River canal where it comes out of the tunnel.

Looking down the Colorado canal where it comes out of a tunnel. Ocotillo blossom, creosote blooms,  ad a cool rock.

Backlit red thorned cactus, cool rock, screw bean mesquite seeds and our campground. Sunset looking east.
Looking west you can see the lights of Yuma.
