August 7, 2011 North From Libby

After a bit of starting trouble at Priest Lake we headed north. Off to go see my old friend Carlos who lives up in Eureka Mt. He turned us on to a nice campsite up Grave Creek rd that had everything we could need.... flat ground. I tried to hook with Carlos last year at the take out of the Selway River but due to my ignorance and ineptitude it failed to happen. Carlos has a nice house out in the woods with a freeform design, lots of wildlife, and quiet. It was great to see him again.
While we were there we took in the quilt show. There were hundreds of quilts of fantastic designs. I have never realized that there were so many people with so much time on their hands. But then again when you live up against the border of Canada the winters can get pretty long.
While we were in Eureka Sue found a thrift shop and picked up a nice polyester liesure suit and hat for lounging around camp.
So after multiple feasts and an excellent visit it was time to bid Carlos goodbye and start heading over to West Glacier and pet the bears.
Time for the Going down the road check list. Fluid Levles for the bus: Check. Slides in: Check. Awnings in: Check. Everything picked up and stored: Check. All loose items in the bus secured: Check. Start the bus up and hit the road: nothing.... Had to have AAA come out and try to get us jumped. No luck. So I had to pull the battery and starter to take down to Eureka to have the starter checked and the battery charged.
We got it started and head off to West Glacier National Park after about 4 hrs of screwing around. The RV park where we stayed held our reservations so we were in luck. We pulled in late and got set up and went to bed early to be well rested for our day in Glacier.
The first thing we ran into were the "Red Jammers" .
They have a fleet of 33 of these that have all been refurbed by Ford from the wheels up and run on gas or propane. We found in our travels around the Park that these went everywhere.
