We drove up to Canada to Waterton Lakes park. We had to go thru customs to Canada. Waterton is just across the border from Glacier. They are really the same park, just two different countries. They call it a peace park since it combines the two nations taking care of the park. Waterton Lake, seen below is actually in both countries.
Prince of Wales Hotel on Upper Waterton lake. The dining room, the hotel and
the view of Waterton Township, the straight line up the ridge is the border.
John on the International, the boat that goes across the lake to the US and the International docked at Goat Haunt. goat Haunt is the ranger station at the end of the lake. Very remote, you can only take the boat there, or walk. There is a border patrol station too. We had to show our passports to get off the boat-in the US and hike. They stamped it with a goat haunt port, with a goat on it.
The border on the other side of the lake. south end of the lake from Goat Haunt
Goat Haunt from the boat, Waterfall we hiked to.
Everywhere we hiked in Glacier there are bears. Most of the grizzly bears in the northern north America live in either Yellowstone or Glacier. We had to sing, wear bells, talk loud, clap etc. so would not surprise any bears and get mauled.
Me with a cardboard bear, a moose antler
a little moose in my hair, John looking for a secluded beach for a swim
a black bear from the boat, eating berries and entertaining the boat people and back at Waterton township
A t shirt inscription, mountains in north glacier from Canada
Chief Mountain, it is sacred to the resident Blackfeet Indians. The Blackfeet's ancestral home was Glacier, but they got screwed out of it by the US and their reservation has a view of the park from the plains.
We went into Canada on the way up thru customs, thru customs at Goat Haunt and back thru customs to get back into the US. International travelers now.
