We toured an off shore drilling oil rig today. It was built in the 1950’s and is now only being used as a museum and school for off shore oil rig workers. Very interesting tour.
Here is the rig. It is built a little like a ship.
Quarters, 4 beds per room. The students stay here for their 12 + week training. It is just like on a off shore rig. The galley. Having worked as a cook on trail crews this interested me. They serve 4 buffet meals a day here.
the escape pod. If the rig blows up or catches on fire the guys have to suit up in fireproof suits, gas masks go to this pod, It has no motor. They wait for a ship with a crane to pick them up. They have drills where they have to suit up and get to the pod in 1.5 minutes. The rig from the heli pad.
John with some submersibles, John looking into a more modern escape pod
Shrimp boats. We are very close to the gulf. Not much beach here, just swamps and bayous. Christmas decorations in Morgan city.
metal sculpture on the golf course. We are staying in a state park that includes golf course and RV park and Aviation/Cypress sawmill museum. They put up the city’s Xmas lights complete with piped in xmas music for the people to drive thru. I rode my bike thru at sunset tonight. Here is a shooting star light.
The bus in a cows belly, the lights in front of the RV park. Only Louisiana would have shrimp boats in their light display
in front of the Aviation museum. F4 Phantom and xmas lights
light displays , both Xmas and solar. The second photo is the bus in front of the lights. We can see them from the inside. Very festive.
Egad, they have black bears here. The only bears left in this whole area are on the Louisiana coast.
