We are still in Abbeville, LA.. 70 degrees today. Foggy in the am, but burned off and it was a beautiful sunny day. We are pretty close to the gulf I think. I went mountain biking yesterday on the trail here at the nature park. It winds through this deep dark forest, that is also part swamp. I rounded the corner and there was an armadillo  in the trail. It jumped straight up, turned in the air and then disappeared into the forest. This is something you don’t see every day. Well maybe here.

I always wonder if we are going to fit under these short underpasses, Steen's cane syrup. They grow sugar cane around here, along with rice.

Making of the fruit cake. Last year I gave Judy and Laurie a fruit cake made with mothers recipe. She had some left in the freezer so she entered it in the fruit cake festival in Independence, CA and it won first place in the age  category-the oldest and 2nd in the distance-being from Denver and got an honorable mention because she had a nice photo of mother with it. So I am making one now for next year, and making it in Louisiana. Stay tuned for what it wins next year.
