Poem about rivers
John scouting routes on the falls, the Mather Gorge is right below the falls
Rock climbers on the gorge getting ready to drop in, our view from lunch
There was a canal that went around the falls, with 7 locks to raise and lower the boats. It was built by the Patowmack company, which was started by George Washington. Patowmack was the Algonquian Indians, of course the Americans could not pronounce his name and changed it to Potomac. These are the remains of the locks.
fresh water shells, skink, tree trunk, grass seeds, walls of the canal, they looked like they had no mortar.
The way to kayak the falls, you put in below the falls, paddle up to them and carry your kayak up. This guy carried up then came down. It poured rain while he was coming down.
Great Falls of the Potomac, This week is shark week on the discovery channel, so they have a shark on their building in DC.
