The bus at Westerly RV park, right across the street from Trimble hot springs, that we soaked  in last evening.

Today we drove up to Silverton to visit some friends. A couple views from Molas Pass. The San Juan mountains are very rugged and spectacular.

Wildflowers at Molas Pass. The Colorado Trail, which runs from Denver to Durango crosses the highway here. The trail was built totally by volunteers. I was one of them, I worked a week each summer for at least 17 summers on it. It is a great trail in a very beautiful place.

Molas Lake. The town of Silverton is in a valley between huge peaks.

Street views in Silverton. It is an old mining town. Lots of historic buildings.

The old steam engine Durango/Silverton train runs between Durango and Silverton. We considered riding it up, but the price has gone up, $200 for two in the cheap seats. Plus it takes it 3 1/2 hours to go 45 miles each way  and it gets boring running through town. If you haven’t been (I have a bunch of times) it is worth it, it runs through some very beautiful scenery that the road does not go to. We visited old friends Sam and Mavis. I have known them for about 30 years. We used to ski and hike together a lot when I lived in this part of the country. It was really good to see them.

Sue and John, we went on a short hike with them. Pinkerton hot springs, off the highway on the way back.

I have no idea what this plant is, but it was growing wild in Silverton. I visited with Marcie, who I went to high school with in Cody. She moved to Durango right after we graduated and went to college here and went on to become a principle.
