Nice relaxing day. Low 70’s, sunny with puffy clouds in the sky.
We hiked up Shallow Creek. John on a not stable bridge. The view to the west.
Yes, me fishing in a beaver pond. The fish had plenty of bugs to eat, so were not interested in my lure. The bugs were interested in me and there were nettles. Had a couple of strikes and actually saw lots of big trout. John hiking into the Aspens.
Same place, different beaver pond, same results. A couple of mushrooms growing in the meadow.
The next day it rained. This deer wandered through camp right before dinner. We hung out and read books. Yesterday we again headed to town. Here is an interesting piece of artwork in one of the galleries.
The Underground mining museum is in a cave that is dug into the rock at the end of town. It was very informative and well done. A few things seen, a miner drilling , the dynamite room, the elevator they took down to the lower levels and the honey wagon.
The historical society museum is in the old train station. John is in jail on one of Creedes original jail cells in front of the museum.
The bar from one of the old bars. A pelican and some ducks from another old bar.
Creede’s city park. The log cabin is the library. A view from near the campground to Creede. Creede is in the valley in the shadow in the middle of the photo.
While in the meadow I found this- Hugh Hall’s favorite place, no idea who he is, but he had a pretty favorite place. There are tons of wild flowers blooming, but they are shorter than the grass. They don’t come out well in a photo, but are beautiful in person.
Aster, aslym, penstamen, sage, yellow bush, gone by sulfur flower, golden aster, verbena.
Pretty grass, red bee, alfalfa, lupine, grass, yarrow, penstamen and a late wild rose.
We went to the afternoon matinee at the Creede Repertory Theatre of The Liar. It was hilarious. After the show the actors were out front to talk to all of us. Great theater and group, they do about 6 different shows. We stopped at a truck by the road and bought some fresh Olathe sweet corn for dinner. Yum, yum.
The worlds biggest fork in front of a restaurant in Creede. This is the ruins of an old clay mine outside of Creede.
The moon rising this afternoon.
