Sunny, in the 50’s and not windy today. It was lovely so we hiked 4 and a quarter miles.
This turpentine still is in the park. Along with this ‘portable’ saw mill.
Turpentine is distilled form pine pitch. They cut slashes in the pine trees and collect the pitch in buckets. There is a huge fire in the furnace on the right and a coil in the tank to the left. The turpentine separates from the water and drips out . John on the beach in the park. This beach is on the Grand Lagoon which is right off the gulf. The ocean is on the other side of the spit in front of John.
Wild rosemary blossoms, a sea star, a white flowering vine and sea oats. Looking back toward camp along the beach.
It seems strange to see pine cones on the beach until you see the pines on the coastline. Sea gulls in the waves, a flying great blue heron, a great egret on one leg, with a heron behind him, hunting heron in the marsh, and in the ocean.
We walked back on a trail through the dunes, and the palmettos and long leaf pines.
