September 10-12, 2018 Jackson to Cody , Wyoming

When I woke up and looked out the window I saw moose in the campground. 4 moose were taking a stroll through the campground, with people all around taking photos.

I ran out in my bathrobe and took photos for you all to see. We headed to Yellowstone this morning. The park website said their campgrounds were first come first serve. When we arrived we found out that the parks sites are first come first serve and their sites are too small for the bus and probably full. The ones we fit in are reservation only, through Zanterra. Not mentioned on the website. They were all full. Nice of the Tetons to have a Moran entrance for John Moran, and Moran Junction. We crossed the Continental Divide again.  Leaving Yellowstone National park.

Danger do not approach wildlife and some people who can't read. Bear spray may work, but I would die of a heart attack waiting for the bear to get close enough to spray.  When I was in school in Cody my mother used to like to take us on drives in Yellowstone. Hours and hours of nothing but lodge pole pine as far as the eye can see. My brother and I in the back seat. We didn't get along that well and neither of us wanted to be there. That changed with the wild fires. As much as I hate to see all the burnt trees I love seeing views.

Much of the drive to Cody was through construction. What should have been an hour and a half drive was about 4 more hours. Fortunately we had nice scenery. John had made reservations at an RV park. When we got there we found out that someone else had taken our reservation- not sure how- so they were puzzled when we showed up. They managed to shoe horn us into this site that is barely long enough for the bus, the car is parked elsewhere. We are on the end, by the entrance with this view of the highway. After we set up they came and explained that to us and said they did have another site we could have, but John was too tired to move. Tomorrow they will try to get us a longer site.

We are here to visit my high school friend Billie and her husband Glenn. Here we are at dinner. Years ago Billie and I posed for a photo sitting on this buffalo. We considered doing it again, but only made it this far.

Sunset over beautiful downtown Cody. Which I barely recognize now. Billie and I went to the Cody Heritage Museum today and ran into a class mate of ours Janet Frost Bucknell. She is on the board of the museum and gave us a personal tour of the museum. Nice museum, well done and it was great to see Janet.

Suep, Billie and Jane. We had dinner at the Silver Dollar while our husbands played pool. We went to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Museum today. I went to high school here and have been to the museum many times, but the last time was maybe 20 years ago. There are a lot of nice new additions now. I told John to stand in the photo so he is inside the tepee waving.

On the front door is says to check all visible firearms at security, a painted buffalo hide in the plains Indian portion of the museum, the Buffalo Bill museum has lots of history and artifacts about Buffalo Bill. There is a grizzly bear at large in Cody. They don't usually come down this low. a nice statue of Sacajawea. A full sized bronze of an elk.  A new wing the Draper museum of natural history had excellent exhibits of the animals, plants and climate zones of the area.

After the museum John enjoyed an IPA at the Pat O'Hara brewery here in town. Glenn and Billie cooked us a yummy pork chop dinner tonight. It has been good to see them.
