September 21, 2018 Craters of the Moon, Idaho

We hiked the North Crater trail today. Kind of like a roller coaster up and down ,over and around the craters and cinder cones. The edge of one of the craters. I love the way the red and black cinders fade into each other.

John hiking up one of the steep sides of the crater. Looking down into the massive crater.

Cool clouds over the trail. Chaotic a’a’ lava below smooth looking cinders.

Another arch and a cave in the side of a spatter cone, bubbly lava, a fissure, yellow lichen on dark lava and limber pines cones.White flowers, blazing star and a fall red plant.

Small arch, bright grasses and a row of spatter cones along the Great Rift, a tear or fissure in the earth’s crust that lava erupted through. Dead tree, live tree and colored cinders.

I took this photo of John on the way out by this arched tree over the trail and he took this on of me on the way back. We met Mitch on the trail. He has this burly rig that he travels in. It has a rugged  roof mounted tent with 3 inches of memory foam  to sleep on on top of a rugged jeep with all the supplies inside.

Sunset started out with this weird red rainbow then progressed into a  brilliant sunset.
The current masterpiece. It has a piece of glass I made in the middle surrounded by glass beads.
