September 8-9, 2016 Jackson, Wyoming

Fall Color in Granite Canyon. Granite Falls.

The reason we went up Granite was to go to the Granite Hot Springs. Here is the pool. It is a the end of a 10 mile dirt road south of Jackson.  On the way back we stopped at the Snake River Brewery so John could have an IPA and we split a pizza.

The smoke was pretty bad today. The top of the photo is today with the smoke, below is the same view with no smoke. This must be the spot to take photos of the sunset over the Tetons.

I oped for something with a few less people in it. Of course after we left the sunset got more colorful so we stopped again and I got this one.

Today we paddled String Lake to Leigh Lake. Mid 70's, sunny and beautiful. Except that we had a head wind both ways. Looking back at the Tetons. Looking ahead up String Lake.

John Moran ahead of me on Leigh Lake with Mt St John to the left and Mt Moran to the right. A paddle meant for him. A sandy beach on Leigh Lake.

Coming around the corner to waves and white caps in front of Mt St John and Mt Moran. We turned around here and headed back. Fall colors along Leigh Lake.

The smoke has moved in on the Tetons view.  John paddling in front of an island on Leigh Lake.

John is the dot going over the drop in front of me. I was worried that it would be the last time I saw him. He refused to do the portage back to String Lake. Instead he picked his way between logs and rocks. I portaged around , beat him there and saw him pulling his boat at the bottom.  My boat at the portage point.

John in front of Mt St John and Mt Moran. Mt Moran over the beautiful clear water.

A Kimberly Kruiser- a luxury Australian trailer. The Grand Teton park boating permit. It cost $12, we also had to go somewhere else and purchase the $15 state of Wyoming boating permit. We had the boat inspection done on Friday. When we got to the park entrance we were told we had to have the boat inspection done each day we boated, so we had to turn around go back and get the boats inspected. What an expensive hassle to boat in the park. Do not approach the moose, my shadow in String Lake. Looks kind of like a jelly fish, so young women paddle boarding on the lake. Paddle boards do not need all the permits. . . John missed the don't approach the moose sign. The smoke over the Tetons on the way back.

Tetons and fall foliage. The map showing String Lake, Mt St John, Mt Moran, Moran canyon, Moran Bay. A trip meant for John Moran.
