May 1, 2021 Bishop, California

90 degrees and sunny. We went up into the Sierra's where it was cool.

The forest near Mammoth Lakes, Calif. The trees are really big. This crack is from an earthquake.

John outstanding in his own snowfield. Purple vetch flowers, The Welcome sign into Mammoth Lakes says 'The mountains are calling. . .' John Muir, and the exit one says 'Coming to the mountains is going home" John Muir. Yellow flowers on a bush..

Mammoth Mountain ski area is HUGE. It is open till Memorial Day and was packed. Mammoth ski area is the three peaks to the left, including the big bowl in between. Lifts go all the way to the top of the three peaks.

John is in heaven. We had lunch at the Mammoth Brewery. Three different breweries in three days. Hot Creek geological area has thermal features like hot springs, geysers etc along the creek in the gorge.

John hiking along Hot Creek. A hot spring along Hot Creek.

Above the gorge Hot Creek meanders through meadows and is excellent fishing. Desert peach bushes were blooming. A lizard at Hot Creek area.

We hiked around Convict Lake in a glacial cirque surrounded by very high rugged peaks.  The trees are just leafing out at Convict Lake.

The grass is just coming up along the shore of Convict Lake. The water is very clear.

Aspen trees just leafing out around Convict Lake. Looking back at the beautiful water at the end of the Convict Lake.

A water drop from melting snow, reddish catkins on the cottonwood trees. Pink heath flowers. The budding willows were red against the blue lake.

Pink flowers on a bush, aspen catkins. These white flowers are black locust trees growing in town. The are perfuming the air. Me posing under a portrait tree.

The trees here are huge. I am standing at the base of the left one. The wind was blowing so hard all the needles were pointing in one directions.
