77 and sunny.
I am looking out the window at a group of people freaking out over our rubber snake under the step. John opened the door and they started yelling, don't come out, there is a snake under your step. He steps out, picks it up and says look it's frozen! San Francisco Peaks over Flagstaff. I went to college in Flag and the only thing I recognize there now is the peaks, town has gotten huge.
We are staying at the KOA in Seligman. Beautiful, historic downtown Seligman.
Here we are at the Hippy Cricket. I turn my back and John starts talking to street women.
The Deluxe Inn is a historic landmark motel. We fueled up in Winslow at $3.31 a gallon. A man at the pump told John that Winslow has the cheapest fuel in the state. I wondered why all the stores were selling old license plates until I saw this post with 66 on top and the license plates of all the state route 66 goes through. A few route 66 signs, this sign is so faded it looks like Farts and Service, The roadkill cafe, you kill it, we will grill it. The Ice Cap has been in Seligman forever. When we boat on the Grand Canyon the bus that picks us up at the end always stops at the Snow Cap so we can get ice cream. Wonderful after 2-3 weeks on the river. John is delighted, there are two mustangs in front of the Ice Cap, one is a 60's model and the other one is a newer type.
Seligman is the birthplace of the Route 66 association. Angel Delgadillo started the route 66 Association, which got people interested in traveling old route 66 in the 80's. There is a cardboard cut out of him and a timeline. He was the town barber for 47 years. He and his wife drove up and down route 66 getting more towns interested in the Association and publicizing Route 66. The town park in Seligman.
The Copper Cart has the Motoporium. It is an antique shop/ souvenir shop and old car museum. The VW bus is covered with stickers. A vintage car that says get your kicks on route 66, drink coke.
The Hippy Cricket. John bought fresh tamales for dinner at that little tent on the left with the pink sign. They were delicious. John and I in front of the largest metal route 66 sign. I am getting my kicks, John is flapping his arms.
We are still driving on Route 66. John does not like to stop at attractions when driving the RV, so we missed Gigantus Headicus in Kingman. A 14 foot tiki head. Bummer. We pulled into Maverik to fuel up at $3.39, but that ended up being the cash price, it was $3.49 with credit. Bougainville in the campground. We may have made a tactical error, it may be too early go come this far south. The high was 90 degrees. The side of the bus was 96, inside with AC 83. But John thought that was too cold, so we turned off the AC in the front for him, he was comfortable at 90 degrees. I sat in the back with the AC on and it was 83.
The bus at Davis Camp in Bullhead City. Davis Camp is on Colorado River just south of the Davis Dam. Sunset on the south beach of the campground.
We usually camp on the North Beach when we come here. But there are no hook ups there and 90 is too hot for me with out AC. And if we were down there I would have wanted to get into the water, but my toe is not healed yet and the Colorado River this far south is really polluted, so no toe in the water. We are up on the hill above the river. Sunset.
They are pruning the palm trees in the park back to the bare minimum. Palm trees and moon in sunset.
Sunset on the river and sunset on the river with the casinos in Laughlin across the river.
