March 15 2012 The Ides of March

We went over to Anastasia island to see the light house ,Fort Matanzas and the beach.

light house keepers house. It is a duplex, there were two light keepers, great horned owl and babies

OMG dangerous Wild oysters!! I don’t think I have ever seen any domestic ones. . . Fort Matanzas from the boat we took to the island to see it

the walls are made of Cocina. It means little shells in Spanish. The Castillo de san Marcos and many of the older buildings are made out of it. It is great for the forts, it is just soft enough to absorb the cannon ball, but not break apart.  The living quarters at Fort Matanzas.

Sue and John in the sentry box, the massacre site. Menendez massacred the French settlers on their land here. Not sure if it was  because they were French, trespassing or not Catholics.

Northern Gannet. Now you see his head, now you don’t! A sail boarder sailing by John on the beach.  John walked on the beach, I sat in my lounge chair and read and sunbathed.
