We are now camped at a Winery/Brewery/restaurant called Simmons Winery. The weather is sunny and 77. The property is 360 acres, been in the same family for a few generations. Most of it is planted in corn with the vineyard and orchard. We have been seeing hay stored in these long plastic sleeves. Not sure why, but have not seen them anywhere else. Maybe they are new?
Had a nice walk about in the vineyards and the corn. Very peaceful here in the country.
The winery etc are very busy. Standing room only on weekend end evenings. It was packed when we went it. I tasted wine, John tasted beer. They have 6 IPA's- Johns favorite. I even had a beer. I like porters, this was a stout. I am such a cheap drunk that one beer kicked my bum. Fun time.
We drove past Indianapolis to where we are now. Fall grapevines and a blue flower growing in the vineyard. Sunset over the harvested corn maze. Sorry to have missed that.
This morning I saw the sunrise again. It did not even rise till 8am. Even I am up by then usually. Fall color along the road today.
We are camped tonight at the Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun, Indiana. It is a commercial RV park with hook ups and all the ambiance of a parking lot. But it is close to the low point of Ohio which is the confluence of the Miami and the Ohio rivers. John walking toward the low point.
On the actual low point is this huge power plant with these smoke belching smoke stacks. It is all private property and the access roads are padlocked. So we got as close as possible. Here is John on the Miami river just up from the power plant.
The closest to the low point is in Shawnee Overlook state park. We went for a nice hike around some prehistoric Indian mounds. It was 75,sunny, still pretty green and lovely.
There are still lots of wildflowers blooming. Purple datura buds, they bloom at night, their seed a thornapple, white and pink flowers red seed pods and yellow flowers
A bench from stone and both ends are old mill wheels. Yellow leaves. We drove on the Ohio byway. We just missed the navy bean festival by a week. Darn. For some reason here when it thunders they want you inside.
The Great Crescent brewery is closed on Sunday so John didn't get his craft IPA beer tonight. But outside was their Ambrewlance! I sat in the huge lawn chair on the beach of the Ohio river in Sunrise.
We went into the casino. They are already decorating for Christmas, two weeks before halloween. Nothing is sacred anymore. Gambling is illegal in Indiana so they have the gambling on a river boat on the river. Here is a model of the boat. I won $10 today. Much better than loosing.
On the river boat they have video roulette. How boring. The clouds were cool this pm, but no sunset rain is moving in again.
