October 4-5, 2017 Rhinelander to Baraboo, Wisconsin

We left Grantsburg and headed toward Hawkins Wisconsin. But the campground at Hawkins would not work for the bus so plan B we continued on to Rhinelander. Long day.
Wisconsin is a dairy state, farms like this one were all along the way. We went through Tony, Wisconsin, then Ladysmith. The Ladysmith Adult Day care almost sounds X rated and I saw this bigfoot at our campground. Along with this cool totem pole. The metal logger was on the way. The fall colors are just getting better.
Rhinelander has this mythical creature called a Hodag on their water tower and in front of the chamber of commerce. It is also the high schools mascot. The trees are tamarack or larch. They are a deciduous conifer. We are now camped at Moen Lake Campground. We are about the only people here. There are lots of RV's but I think they are weekenders since no one is here.

This is the view of the lake across from the campground.

We caught the full harvest moon rising over the lake at sunset. It was breathtaking.

So I took too many photos. The last one is John laying on the pier to get the best photo.

I am working on this basket now. I am trying out a new technique called dropped coils. Not sure how it will come out, but at least I like the colors. It is about 7-8 inches in diameter.

Kind of a funky day. John wanted to boat on the Wolf River. It is on an indian reservation so you need a permit. He called all over and found out you have to get it from a rafting company, that they thought was closed for the season. Then the campground by the river never returned his calls, then a museum we wanted to go to is closed for the season. It is too late in the season to be this far north. So we drove 200 miles south today. Long day. We zigzagged through farm country getting to the one campground John found that is still open- but closes on Monday. We were not sure if the campground was in a cornfield.
Here is the bus at Fox Hill RV park. It is very nice in a grove of oak trees. Hardly anyone here tonight, but they said about 50 parties are coming in for the the weekend. We didn't even know it was Columbus weekend.

Wisconsin Dells is the next town. It is a really tacky tourist destination.  Here are some of the distractions, mean attractions. Wizard Quest, Ripley's believe it or not, Ye ole' Nerd Shop, Tommy Bartlett show-which might be interesting, it is water skiing tricks, Wally World with the Gyrotron, many swiss chalets, fudge shops, T Shirt stores, Wild Fun Zone with a gorilla and octopus on top,Dells Bells wedding chapel, moccasin store with a plastic Indian in front,  male and female weenie roaster or marshmellows- your choice. I have a crappie attitude, Goody Goody Gum Drops candy store, a torture devices museum and Have a Swig with Nig.
