We left Medora and stopped and hiked the Painted Canyon in the Teddy Roosevelt park then headed to New Salem to see Salem Sue, a 40 foot tall fiberglass cow, the largest fiberglass Holstein in the world. Very hot days.
Salem Sue!
In Bismarck we toured the state capital building. An art deco skyscraper. In the monkey room the paneling had animals in it. See the monkey and the wolf? The view of the front lawn from the top.
We went to the 70 tribe international pow wow after that. These are some of the dancers. Really incredible.
I loved these guys. They were teen age boys. they had a headdress on, and a feather bustle on the back. They did wild gyrations and all of the feathers were a blur of color. Chicken dance.
Here is a woman waiting her turn to dance. The silver ornaments on her costume are rolled copenhagan can tops. These were dance competitions.
A little of everything was for sale. Even bear penis bones. The bead work was beautiful.
In the evening the intertribal dance.
