May 1, 2020, Kingston Mountains and Mojave Preserve, California

Only around 90 today. We took another jeep trip through the Mojave Preserve.

Poppies in the old graveyard at the old Tecopa town site. Looking back west from the Kingston Mountains over a blooming creosote bush.

Scenes from Smith springs in the Kingston Mountains. There was once a log cabin here, but it burnt down. Then the cattle desimated the spring. It is now fenced off to keep the cows out and has grown back.

John at the Crystal spring outlet in the Kingston mountains. This spring had been destroyed by grazing cattle. It is now fenced off and very green and cool. Lilac bonnets, mallow, ready to bloom datura and watercress in the Crystal spring.

View of the Kingston mountains from Crystal Spring. Grass at Crystal spring, prickly poppy and Palmer's pentstemon.

Cactus in the Kingston mountains.

Cactus in the Kingston mountains.  Indian paintbrush in the Joshua tree forest.

Rugged mountains in the Mohave National Preserve with Joshua trees. Milk vetch seed pods, desert tortoise in the highway. Many of them get killed in the road, so we herded this one off the road. Desert mariposa lily and rattlesnake weed.

Vegetation along the Hart mine road.

Mojave Prickly pear with shaggy long spines, fuchsia blooming prickly pear. There was lots of this orange mallow.

Desert dandelions along the Mojave 4 x 4 road.  Parish's larkspur, pencil cholla and paper bag bush, so called for it's seed pods that look like paper bags to someone.

Mojave aster, brittle bush and huge yuccas, along the Mojave road. The jeep with Susan, Judy and John on the Mojave road. It is a very long, very bumpy 4 wheel drive road with beautiful scenery.

Huge rock and yucca along the Mojave road. Near the junction of the Mojave road and the highway we found the flag and a box with a register for the road.
