May 17-19, 2020 Shoshone, California

96, sunny and windy.

The thermometer was reading 105 degrees. I think it was actually 96, not that it would feel any different to me. Judy and Judy came over for dinner. John cooked a vegetarian shepards pie and Judy D brought lemon farro salad. Great dinner, good company.

Sunset tonight. Got down to the high 70's this evening and it is freezing! The progress on the basket. It took me forever going through my beads to choose one for this window in this basket. Looks good. It is 9 x 8 wide x 6 tall inches at this point. The piece of birch bark in it is not regularly shaped so it is fun trying to coil around it.

Sunset tonight. Friends brought us a happy hour and people came by to bid us good bye. We are leaving tomorrow toward Colorado. Cynthia and Karin came by in full masks and social distancing.

We left Shoshone this morning. We have been there since December, longer than we have ever stayed anywhere in 10 years. It was great, beautiful, fun little place, we made lots of friends and did lots of good hiking. Little island of safety in the pandemic. It was sad to leave. But it was getting too hot. Plus John thinks they may lock back down travel when the second wave of Covid starts. This is the Nopah mountains just to the east of Shoshone. We stopped in Pahrump at Shoshone Propane and filled up. John talking with Robbie. They were having a propane filling class and we had lots of attention. We also went to the grocery store and stocked up.

The casinos are still closed. Empty parking lot at the Nugget in Pahrump and driving past the Las Vegas Strip. Carp, we missed the turn off to Carp.

Our site at the Solstice Motor coach resort in Mesquite and our view.  We saw it when they were building it, it was to be a luxury resort. They seem to have run out of money and it has seen better days. Too bad the clubhouse that looked nice was closed due to the virus. Sunset clouds were interesting. Looks like a fire breathing dragon.

Followed by the baby fire breathing dragon. Then a nice normal sunset.
