July 30- August 1 , 2024 Fort Collins, Colorado

High of 95. Sunny and smoky,

Ash and cinders on our new starlink from the two fire just southwest. Smoke from the Alexander fire to the southwest at sunset.

The smoke and actual sunset. The Alexander fire and the evacuation areas. It is now 5000 acres. It just started yesterday. It is 0% contained. See how close it is to Loveland, which is not that far from Fort Collins.

The Stone Canyon fire just started today. It is just west of Longmont. It was so hot that I didn't get out riding till late. It was still 90 degrees at 7pm. I don't think I have ever been out late enough  before to see these lights on College Ave.

I have been working on making some centers for baskets. Today I ground down the edges of the resin of the pieces I set in resin. Messy work. I think the official temperature was 94, but it was 103 in our back yard.

Bike path in the smoky light. Smoke from the fires.

The smoke plume was much smaller this evening. Sunset.

There was free music in the square. These guys performed at the back of the crowd during a break. The same night I put what is on the left into the kiln, the next day I took out this with a huge bubble in it. Bummer. Will require me to be creative to fix it.

Some puddle pendants and two commission belt buckles I made. Gorgeous sunset on my bike ride.

A doe and fawn by the bike trail. Last night I put the top piece into the kiln and when I opened it today had another bubble(lower left) I put a scrap from the center piece in the hole and put it back in the kiln(lower right).

I am setting the last batch of basket centers in resin here.  I drilled holes in the resin around the centers I ground the sides down on the other day. Lots of messy work for basket centers.

John smoked some wonderful pork for our friends John and Mandy and he invited our new neighbors Michael and Ruth for dinner too.
