This is the first U-haul trailer I have ever seen. We took off out of town, into the clouds
This is Rock Fish Gap, mm marker 0.0 for the Blue Ridge Parkway behind us and mm 104 on Skyline Drive thru Shenandoah. They number the mile markers from the north to south. We went backwards. Skyline drive was in a cloud at the beginning. The view from the view points was of fog,
So was the road. It slowly lifted.
The view of Shenandoah Valley from Skyline drive. The park was established in 1935 and extends 70 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on one of the highest and most scenic portions of the Blue Ridge. Shenandoah means ‘daughter of the stars’.
Loft Mountain Campground, our site in the campground.
Briar Bunny in our campsite. The campground is full of raspberry bushes-briar patches, that are loaded with berries. Here is another reason to leash your pet!!
We went on a short scenic hike on Frasier discovery trail.
John at the overlook from the trail.
green lava stone cliff, Skyline drive from the viewpoint.
Frazier trail goes on part of the Appalachian trail. The AT parallels Skyline drive on the crest. A spring by the trail
We were going to eat dinner at the picnic table, I look out the window and look who wanted to join us for dinner! A couple of black bears. They were eating all the berries, but they left as soon as they figured out we saw them. This young family was watching the sunset at the same view point we went to off the campground. They had just seen 4 bears below, a mother and 3 cubs. The family is from Florida and are on their way home from visiting Grandma in upstate New York.
sunset
Raspberries, white flowers, red columbine, rain drops, purple flowers, the last one is a self heal.
orange mushrooms, a millipede almost as big as my foot, purple flower and white yarrow.
Today we hiked the Loft Mountain loop trail. We saw a white tailed buck and a cool rock among other sights.
