Today was a little more hazy, but still nice. The light was not as nice for photo. We took a hike called Black Ridge, it started at the ranger station.
Old chimney in the woods, this man is taken!!
John behind the fence between the parkway and the trail, checking out the view in a field of daisies.
I was taking this shot of the flowers in the meadow and this biker rode into it. The sun came out for awhile
wooded part of the trail, John resting after lunch
this first shot is a small slice of view in front of a bench on a knob. Many of the view points on the parkway are obscured by trees. Can’t see the forest for the trees! A storm is rolling by.
Rocky Knob cabins. They we built in the 1930’s by the CCC, they still rent them out now.
Storm still advancing. We happened on a winery of the main road. This is their amphitheater.
Chateau Morrisette
Mike our host at tasting. From the parkway this is another amphitheater called Floydfest. Later in July they have a huge concert festival here.
A couple things from the winery shop, and the blackberries are looking almost ripe. We tasted them and they were far from ripe, very sour and an orange milkweed. John prepared a sumptuous dinner of roasted sweet potatoes and BBQ pork in a pita and fresh broccoli.
We went up to Saddle overlook for sunset. You can see both east and west. We were hoping to catch the sunset and the full moon rising in the sunset. But it was cloudy- so we got this little slice of sunset, that looked more like a UFO and the moon was totally obscured by the clouds. We met a local couple who came up the watch the fire works, guess they always have them on the 3rd here. But we did not see much, too foggy and tiny. Guess that is better than seeing no fireworks.
