We decided to hike to Doyle River and see the falls. We saw two black bear cubs today. One on the road and one by the trail.
The upper falls-28 feet high, John climbing over a downed tree on the trail, there are still lots of them from the storms
63 foot high lower falls, John on his way up to
our lunch spot
blue flowers and a tiger swallowtail and a black swallow tail butterflies. I slipped on a wet rock at the bottom of the falls and smacked my left hip really hard, and got my sox, boots and pants sopping wet. Boo. So we headed back. The view from an overlook off Skyline drive.
Looking down on Doyle River, in the valley in the middle from Skyline drive. We got back just in time for it to start to rain, it rained hard for two hours. We went out and picked raspberries in the campground during the rain.
Raspberries and one black berry. I made raspberry, walnut oatmeal muffins. Still lots of raspberries left.
John cooked dinner, pork in a raspberry chipotle sauce. The sun came out just in time for dinner outside on the picnic table. No bears joined us tonight.
Dinner, baked sweet potato, green beans and pork with raspberry chipotle sauce. Yum, yum. Then fog rolled in, John walking on the Appalachian trail to the sunset view.
Great view, fog, which turned pink when the sunset. There was a cloud layer over the Shenandoah valley below. We were above it. A gentleman from Delaware joined us for sunset. He rode his motorcycle up for a few days, it is only a three hour drive from where he lives. I love it that the locals enjoy their backyards.
More sunset shots.
Sunset thru the eyes of the beholder!!
