We packed up and departed Acadia National Park, even thought there are many more hikes to do. Winter is coming and we don’t want to get stuck here, and it is getting too cold- into the 40’s at night and only in the 60’s during the day, on warm days. Time to go south along the coast.
Belfry, Maine a small coastal town on the way. We stayed in Camden, ME, a small town with tourist traps and yachts in the harbor instead of lobster boats on the coast. Very pretty away from downtown. They even have a ski area, but we did not see any hills. This is the marina.
Another marina shot later, from a different angle. Departed the next day for Portland. Another cute town on the way down.
We stopped in Freeport, Me to go to the main(Maine) L.L.Bean outlet. The ready bus in front of us let out about 50 elderly people on the corner, we could not pass. It took forever for all those people to get off the bus. That should have been our first clue, then it takes off, and we wait another 10 minutes here for construction. We followed signs to the RV parking and missed it, so had to come through the construction again. The place is packed with people, there are 170 outlet stores here. They bring tour buses. There were some screaming deals in the North Face and LL Bean, too bad we don’t need anything. I went to replace my North Face boots that wore out after 2 years, and I got a $120 pair for $60. John thought about buying these red long underwear.
We came to Portland to visit with John’s college friend Beau. Here they are drinking beer and telling lies. . . Beau took us out to lunch at a fancy place on the waterfront in an old ferry called DeMilles. Casco bay has the Calendar Island, so called because of their number 365.
Here is the worlds largest yacht, belongs to Mr. Geffen, of dream work pictures. He wanted to see the fall colors so he motored over here. The waterfront area on the harbor, with cobble stone streets and historic buildings. Beau grew up here and has lived his whole life here, except when he want to college in Colorado. So he told us all kinds of history of the area.
The bus at the Wassamki Springs Campground. They have a lake here with a one mile beach for swimming in. Too bad it is too cold to swim. The fog is already starting to settle in for the evening. I started another basket. It has birch bark in it. It is between 7 and 8 inches in diameter and will be 10 inches tall.
The other side.
