We checked out the Old Orchard Beach outside Portland. It is the Maines oldest sea shore resort. It has 7 miles of beach. The coast is mostly rocky and cliffs. It has the typical beach town, souvenir shops, bars, restaurants and an amusement park-which was closed, a 24,ooo square foot arcade-which is open till Columbus day. and a nice beach. Little cool for the beach, but a nice walk.
John strolling on the beach, John talking to a parasailer.
The pier, and the Mexican hat ride at the amusement park, which is closed for the season as were most of the shops on the pier. It all closes Columbus day, which is tomorrow. So do all the campgrounds in most of New England.
John and Beau with a couple lobsters. Beau came in with a huge box of live lobsters. Lobsters are cheaper this year because they molted early, in May instead of August. There was a glut of soft shell lobsters and not many hard shell ones. We came at the right time. Beau and Nancy live in a beautiful old restored farm house.
Dinner at Beau and Nancy’s house with Bruce, Frazier, Jean and John. Dinner, Lobsters, corn on the cob, steak, fresh tomatoes, mashed potatoes, whoopie pies-the Maine state treat and strawberry shortcake.
Lenny the worlds only life size chocolate moose. He is 1,700 lbs of chocolate. He is in Len’s chocolate store in Scarborough, Maine. Also this moose ballerina.
this is the lake at the Wassamki Springs Campground where we are staying.
