We are just north west of Charleston, South Carolina. I want to see Francis Beidler Forest Sanctuary. It is the worlds largest undisturbed swamp forests with virgin stands of Bald Cypress and tupelos. It is near by, we will go there tomorrow. It was a cold, windy, gray, drizzly day, good day to drive.
The bus at Givhans Ferry park, we are back in the land of grand oaks and spanish moss. I don’t know what this flower is, looks hibiscus like, 6 inches in diameter, maple looking leaves and the plant was taller than the building and it is blooming in Nov. Really nice.
Spanish moss, fall color in front of a CCC built pavilion.
John is reattaching some piece of metal that was loose underneath. While he did that I walked on the nature trail- 3 miles round trip. Here are some bald cypress by the Edisto river. There is a 56 mile long canoe/kayak trail down this river.
Fall colors of the american beech tree on the trail. Has leaves like an elm, but they turn the prettiest yellow orange in the fall. The soil is so alkaline here they have rare plants like the Carolina scaly-stem and the blackstem spleenwort growing here. Wish I had seen a spleenwort.
bridge on the trail, and fall colors in the ferns.
