Off from Savannah to the Okefenokee swamp. We had been to the east side of the swamp in March, now we are headed to the west side. We camped in the Stephen C. Foster State Park. It is in the middle of the National Wildlife refuse. I can’t keep up with which agency runs what.
We passed a town, I thought at first these were xmas decorations in front of the courthouse, but no they are the team sports! Tree farms, as far as the eye can see, loblolly pines, in straight rows. The paper companies grow them for paper. From Savannah to the swamp, tree farms and some cotton fields in between.
Okefenokee! The first habitat is pines with palmettos growing below. Beautiful weather forecast the whole weekend.
The light as we set up camp. I walked the nature board walk by the trading post and interpretive center. Here is some swamp.
There was a fire here years ago. Lots of colorful grasses. Spider by the board walk.
cypress knees. An alligator in the marina.
warning signs in the marina.
The front of the trading post. Very homey looking. Sunset.
