We are at another Harvest Host farm tonight. Smallwood Farms, it is an all organic, mostly fruit orchards-like the rest of the valley, but also some produce. There is a farmers market store that serves breakfast and lunch. On weekends they have a smoke house BBQ- which is reservations only and sold out way in advance. The farm has been in the family for 4 generations. We had lunch with the owner Dennis and he told us all about the business, himself and the area. One of the really nice things about the harvest host program is meeting local small business people along our travels.
The bus parked next to apple trees that Dennis’s great grand father planted. We bought apples, peaches, pears, zucchini, green beans and a lemon zucchini- which we have never heard of. I made a peach pie tonight.
Mallory, Dennis and his boys who are our hosts. The boys came by in the afternoon and helped pack fruit boxes with dad. This is the city hall in downtown Okanagan.
We saw this GoodStock music festival on the way into town. It will be on the Good Farm. Darn we will miss it. Fruit labels of the valley at the Okanagan historical museum.
Historical town with exhibits at the museum and the first cabin built in the area, moved to the museum. Has a display of old washing machines in front. The one on the right is the first gas powered model.
The inside of a vintage sheep wagon, the first RV’s! This is how apples used to be processed in the old days. I have no idea how they do it now-other than the family loading the boxes in the small farms.
