We headed north to the Seeley Lake Area. I had worked on trail crew in this valley many years ago and had always wanted to come back. We went to Holland Lake campground. It was about the only one that had spots large enough for the bus.
We nabbed a spot with this view of the lake. The lake is so clear it has this turquoise color. The host said that the latest Sunset magazine just came out and this campsite was listed in one of 150 best campsites in the US. It is one of only three in Montana. He said it is always full. We were lucky to have found a spot. Near the weekend countless people kept asking us when we were leaving.
We hopped into our boats and paddled around on the lake. The water fall is at the other end of the lake. John in his boat.
Two more of John in his boat with the Mission Mountains in the background. The Swan mountains are behind us.
Suep motoring in my boat. After dinner I went back out on the lake, it was mirror smooth. Paddling was effortless. There are hardly any buildings on the lake and only two motorboats, and they were not out while I was paddling.
A tipi like structure on the shore. This bald eagle flew over me and landed in this tree. Not sure what this other bird is, but he matches the rocks. Possibly a female sea gull.
Sue on the lake. Last light on the peaks of the Swan mountain range.
John took this sunset from shore. I took this one from the boat on the water.
The next day we hiked up to Holland Falls. The area is very lush and green. It is a popular trail, there were lots of other hikers.
We stopped at Holland Lake Lodge on the way back for a drink and to check out the dinning room. It was closed tonight for a wedding party, but we may come back another night. One of two bucks hanging around camp.
We spent the rest of the afternoon in lawn chairs on the lake reading.
The water is incredibly clear. A water lily seen on my evening paddling.
Reflected clouds and sunset.
