March 1, 2014 Organ Pipe, Arizona

Woo  Hoo, it finally rained. We have not seen rain for at least 100 days.  It rained last night and most of today. Between walks in the rain we both finished our books. Very windy and nice and cool.

Low rain clouds in the am. The rain saturated the colors on the desert. John thought the plants looked happy.

These great European rigs were in the campground. The little one is an exploreX and the big one is an Action Mobil. It costs $670.000 , will go anywhere-even drive through water 2 and a half feet deep and is very plush inside.

Besides being nice looking. This beetle is called a cactus longhorn beetle and is about 1 and a half inches long. He was in a cholla.

This evening the sun came out some and there were rainbows.

The light was fabulous in the Ajo Mountains. We hiked in them yesterday, today we would have been in the clouds. This is changing light on them.

and even another change of light. It has been so hot and dry is is cool to see water on the various plants, the chain fruit cholla, palo verde, cholla bloom and the prickly pear cactus. Not something you see every day in the desert.

This evening we went to a funny  campfire program on vultures. The lecturers dressed as vultures.
