March 5, 2014 Patagonia Lake State Park, Arizona

The state park is about 3,700 feet high and on a lake. It is the biggest lake in south eastern Arizona. I think it may be the only lake! It is around 75 degrees. The trees are all spring green colored and just leafing out. The water is blue. I went out boating in a bathing suit. It was lovely.

Patagonia lake. A flock of mergansers were swimming by, when I got close they flapped their wings and ran on top of the water away. By the time I got my camera out to catch them running they were gone.

There are lots of little side channels to explore. Blue sky, spring green. Lovely.

It is still in the desert, you get reminded by the yucca and ocotillo along the shore in places. The reflection of the sedges in the water.

This is a pedestrian bridge over the mouth of the marina. The view out our front window of the lake, it is across the parking lot to the beach. The beach is under construction and closed, so I doubt there will be many people parking here. All the good sites right on the water were of course filled in advance, but this one is pretty good. Electric  and water hookups.

The bus in our campsite. We are under a canopy of mesquite trees. They are just leafing out. My wonderful husband  preparing dinner while I sit in my lawn chair and read. We ate out on the picnic table, it is warm enough.  There are tons of birds here. I took a couple lame photos of birds on the lake. A coot, the second fat coot is so busy croaking at its reflection it didn’t even notice me. A couple of grebes, cormorant, night heron and the willows are either blooming or those are catkins (pussy willows).
