We drove on the Needles Highway and the Iron Mountain Road to get there. Both scenic highways were designed to best show the grandest views. They include hairpin turns, pigtail bridges and narrow tunnels blasted out of the rock, three of which show views of the 4 faces on Rushmore when you come out. Very impressive and beautiful.
Mount Rushmore seen through the flags on the walk way up to it. John saw this sign that said ' President Jefferson was the principle author of the Declaration of Independance and the first ice cream recipe in America, so he had Jefferson's recipe of vanilla ice cream.
We went to Keystone to see the Borgland museum, but it was closed. The rest of town was a tourist trap. At the edge of town instead of a sign saying Welcome to Keystone, it said Welcome to Keystone Mall. There was a cool chain saw artist who had these photo op sculptures. John in the Keystone chair, with the minions and riding the eagle motorcycle. I rode the buffalo.
We ended the day at the Sick and Twisted Brewery in Hill City. I got John a new hat for his birthday.
After 55 hours of labor I finished this masterpiece.
I can't remember if I posted photos of these cute little guys.
Nice shadows at Fort Welikit campground. Very nice for a commercial RV park, lots of trees and large lots. The top photo is a sheep wagon they rent out, plus they have a couple teepees too.
