April 9-10, 2021 Shoshone, California

 90 degrees and sunny.

John talked me into hiking on the white trail today. The mesquites are leafing out in shockingly bright  spring green. John hiking under cool clouds.

Beautiful historic downtown Shoshone is also leafing out. 1947 Brill parked downtown today.

Tortoises out today. I finished the current masterpiece. It is 7 inches tall and 9 inches wide. It is made on a ceramic bowl my friend made for me. Dyed and natural pine needles, polyester thread, ceramic bead and seed beads.

I harvested some common reeds (phragmites) to play with. Also drilled  holes in these palm sheaths to make something out of.

Phragmites and palm sheath. No idea how it will turn out, but here it is so far. 91 degrees today. We went on a jeep trip to the Morehouse Mine. The white spot on the hills are the mines.

We had 4 vehicles heading up. John and I rode in Susan's white Rubicon. Ore chute at the Morehouse Talc mine.

Shaft at the Morehouse mine. John at the top of the ore chute.

Looking down the ore chute. John looking at the outhouse that has slid down the hill at the Morehouse Mine.

Shelly with a burly door in front of a shaft. Looking west from the top of the Morehouse mine.

Ibex mine and spring. Bunkhouse at the Ibex mine.

We had lunch in one of the buildings at the Ibex Mine. Jeff, Amy, Mary, Lee, Susan, Dave and John. The stone house was the dining hall and the wooden one behind it was the kitchen.

Our next stop was the Monarch Mine. The ore chute at the Monarch Mine.

The dynamite storage cave, a chuckwalla, the lucky penny above the door to the dynamite storage, nettle blossoms- the only flowers we saw and an ant carrying off part of a corn chip on our patio in Shoshone. Our fearless leader Dave, who is a retired ranger in Death Valley. He knows all the routes and history.

Part of our group at the Monarch Mine. Sunset tonight on the only cloud in the sky,
